Kwanzaa Celebration

December 26, 2023-Umoja (unity)

Kwanzaa is an annual celebration that is held from December 26 to January 1, culminating in a communal feast called Karamu, usually held on the 6th day. It was created by Dr. Maulana Karenga based on African harvest festival traditions from various parts of Africa, including West and Southeast Africa. Kwanzaa was first celebrated in 1966. Alive & Free Omega Boys Club believes in living the seven principles of Kwanzaa by being united in solidarity. It is important that we as a community are united (Umoja), determined (Kujichagulia), work collectively (Ujima), sustain ourselves (Ujamaa), do all things with purpose (Nia), are creative (Kuumba) and have faith (Imani).
