Virtual Career Day

Our College Prep students enjoyed Career Day as they were able to virtually meet professionals who looked like them in the creative, holistic, media and medical fields. Ms. Estell & Ms. Demetra made sure our students asked questions and “document the pearls they gave you.”

Husband and wife Nehanda Truscott-Reid and Romaine Reid painted a picture for our students to listen to their heart and to follow their dreams. Nehanda left her corporate job to create her business, Soul Mama, a holistic wellness coach for women. Romaine is a freelance motion designer skilled in Adobe Suite and has worked with numerous high profile clients, including Disney who featured his work on the biggest ad space in New York’s Time Square. It was 10pm in London, but they made time for our students and provided their wisdom. “We all have gifts. You have to go within and quiet the outside noise. Have a hobby, it’s good for your soul and expression.”

Ms. Demetra helped to facilitate the day with Ms. Estell and even gave us a sneak peak into her world. Our students were able to see her on set at OZY Media in Palo Alto as an interview with actor Terry Crews was in progress.

Dr. Andre Campbell, the lead Trauma Surgeon at Zuckerburg San Francisco General Hospital, dedicated his time to our students as he shared, “I wanted to be so many things! A pediatrician, a primary care doctor, and an OB-GYN.” His skills took him to trauma and he has completed over 20,000 operations. Our students questioned the amount of time it took to achieve his position. “If you’re going to be great, you have to devote all your your time to it. It’s not how you fall down, it’s how you get up. I love being a doctor. My job is to save you!”

Our studnets met people who embraced education and their passions on their journey to their careers. Our students loved every moment of the interviews and were left inspired as they are just weeks away from starting their own college journey!
