Welcome Commissioner Ervin!

I’ve been waiting to share this news for a while. Recently, I was informed that I’ve been accepted to join the Juvenile Justice Delinquency Prevention Commission (JJDPC) in Alameda County. This will be my second time serving as a Commissioner (SF Youth Commission 1999-2000) I’m aware of the work ahead and I look forward to providing valuable employment and career resources to incarcerated youth.

I am extremely grateful for this appointment and all that it means. It reads somewhere in the good book, “The harvest is plentiful but the laborers are few.” Matthew 9:35. Nevertheless, I am humbled to serve with this body of professionals and youth to impact lives of Justice System involved young people in a positive way. I am proud to announce that I’ve been officially sworn in as the next Juvenile Justice Delinquency Prevention (JJDPC) Commissioner. I am excited for the opportunity to provide Workforce Development opportunities to Justice System involved youth, that will lead towards equitable and sustainable opportunities towards a better future.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr once wrote, “Everybody can be great…because anybody can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.” This is truly an honor and a blessing to serve the communities of Alameda County.

Special thanks to my family who were in attendance and to my fellow commissioners, Louise Anderson and Elana Metz for working diligently to make this appointment happen. Also, to Judge Scott Jackson for leading the ceremony as well. Last and certainly not least, to my fellow colleague and Chief Program Officer at New Door Ventures, Kevin Hickey for supporting this momentous occasion.

In the words of Tabitha Brown, “Oooh, God I thank you.” I’m stepping through each door with the assurance that what’s meant for me, is for me. I’m thankful to everyone who has provided well wishes and I hope to make you proud. I have now transitioned from, “Please Say The Ervin,” to “Commissioner Ervin.” I’ll see you in community.
